The 5th Annual Dorothy Awards will take place Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Fantasia in North Haven from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets for this year's event will be $100. Tickets can be reserved now by E-mailing nhglcc@gmail.com. In addition, tickets can be bought by using the PayPal order button below.

Silent Auction Items
Our Silent Auction committee is working hard to bring you some great Silent Auction items this year. We've already got some amazing choices. Below are a few examples of what will be on hand (pictures will be forthcoming, as will additional items):

Dance Your Way to the Dorothys!
Once again the Center has partnered with Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Hamden to offer dance lessons leading into the Dorothys. This year, a five week set of lessons are being offered, teaching swing dancing. For more information, visit the Events page.
Dorothy Awards Planning Meeting
The next meeting of the Dorothy Awards committee will take place Monday, March 3 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Anyone who wishes to help out with planning the Dorothy Awards is invited to attend the meeting! Areas of discussion will include decorations, promotion and day-of-event planning. Food will be provided.
Dorothys Host Announced
The Dorothy Awards committee is pleased to announce that Frank DeMayo, the creator of the Dorothy Awards and co-chair of the first three years of the event, has agreed to take the reins and host this year's event. Frank also served as a board member for the NHGLCC.

Another Octave: Connecticut Women’s Chorus
Take 40 women who love to sing, add a committed artistic staff, throw in some story-telling, a few props, a bit of theater, and a big dose of musical excellence — and you have Another Octave: Connecticut Women’s Chorus. Expanding from a small group of lesbians who decided in 1989 that they wanted a regular extracurricular activity other than softball, to a full chorus of women from a wide range of backgrounds, AOCWC has been celebrating our choices and experiences for nearly two decades with an eclectic repertoire including standard concert pieces as well as traditional and contemporary music reflecting women’s lives. The chorus performs several shows a year, primarily in Connecticut, but also traveling to do joint concerts with choruses in other states and performing at national and international GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses) festivals. Whether they’re offering goofy pop tunes, sharp political satire, inspirational freedom anthems, or sultry love songs, Another Octave can always be counted on to delight, surprise, and move its audiences — and to remind us what community is all about.
Patricia Nicolari
Patricia came out as an educator in April of 1997 when Ellen DeGeneres made her big TV debut. Like Ellen, she was committed to stop hiding her sexual orientation and allowed herself to be photographed that evening by the New Haven Register –it made the front page. From that point forward there was momentum toward living out loud. She became actively involved with GLSEN CT (Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network) for over 5 years. She was a workshop presenter around the country assisting other educators in the process of coming out at school. At that point she was a high school teacher and joined another staff member to facilitate the first Day of Silence at Ansonia High School. Patricia has also been a Stonewall Speaker for 8 years speaking at local high schools and colleges. Patricia’s journey of coming out as an educator was selected to be highlighted in Kevin Jennings’ book, One Teacher in Ten, 2nd edition. Patricia is presently an “out” principal of the Ansonia Alternative Education Program. She resides in New Haven and is in a relationship with Elizabeth Forman who has a 5 year old son.
Vincent Farricielli & Robert Modena
Vincent and Robert are true Humanitarians. Vincent has been devoted 22 years to the charitable Spirit of Life, which he as served as president until 2006. Founded by Vincent, SOL has raised funds for local charities including Juvenile Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis Society, New Haven Home Recovery, and Aids Project New Haven. Ten years ago, Vincent teamed with his partner Robert Modena to produce the elaborate SOL fashion productions and cabarets at the Shubert Theater. Through these productions they were able through the years to raise over two hundred and seventy five thousand dollars to benefit local charities. Vincent was the owner of two progressive hair studios in New Haven and Hamden. He founded the first Connecticut chapter of the Look Good Feel Better organization for Yale New Haven Hospital and received the 2006 Alvin Novick award from APNH among many others. Robert owned his own salon in East Haven and now has an extensive collection of Vintage gowns and dresses which as always been his second passion. Last year, he auctioned a Barbra Streisand gown to raise funds for APNH. As partners in life, business and philanthropy, Vincent and Robert share each award “because without the patience and support from your mate nothing can be appreciated or accomplished.” Together, Vincent and Robert are driven by the never ending changes and progressions in the world today and realize the need to be proud of “who we are and what we stand for.”
